Since the arrival of the external hard drives, they are gaining popularity and the use of USB external hard drives is rising for the purpose of storing data and software. The bandwidth of USB 2.0 is must for the devices of high speed. These devices are mainly DVD and CD drives, scanners and removable hard disk drives. Because of higher bandwidth, the data transfer rate of USB 2.0 goes up to 480 MB/second. USB 2.0 is backward compatible to the USB version 1.1 supporting devices. Today, almost all the computers have USB 2.0 ports. USB 1.0 is less preferred because of slow speed and ineffective performance. This is the reason why external USB hard drives must be used with USB 2.0. The USB 2.0 port can be added to the laptops as well.

The USB external hard drives are admired by its users because of its portability. You can store data and carry them easily. The USB external hard drives are cost effective and in comparison to other storage media. USB is a standard interface for transmitting data and work as assistance for connecting the backup devices to the PC’s.  You can easily connect and disconnect USB external hard drives with the system without restarting or configuring the system. This is mainly due to the fact that OS of the computer automatically identifies the USB external hard drive when it is connected. The USB external hard disk drive has huge storage space capacity and hence, it removes the need for maintaining backup schedule.
