Dell’s Latitude XT2 is a top-end tablet PC with its powerful computer peripherals for those who want a premium look and feel; the 13.3-inch machine is deceptively light (3.8 pounds). It offers a premium choice for mobility-minded businessmen in need of a tablet PC. But its $2653 price-tag does raise question marks on its worth.
It’s powered by Intel’s 1.4GHz Core 2 Duo U9400 and boasts 3GB of RAM. The XT2 delivers speedy performance and Dell’s excellent multitouch screen, allows the XT2 to pull ahead of many quality tablets.
A “CTRL” button calls up the option to log out or start the Task Manager. Another button quickly shifts the screen orientation, and a convenient settings button brings up the Dell ControlPoint app for tweaking just about anything on the machine.
The XT2 is a convertible, which means you can rotate the screen and use the machine as a more conventional laptop. The hinge mechanism is good, but like those on most tablets, it doesn’t lock into an upright position.
There’s a pass-through-power USB port (two USB ports total), eSATA, a PC Card slot, an SD Card slot, FireWire, a fingerprint reader, Bluetooth, and 802.11n Wi-Fi. The machine lacks an optical drive, as well as DVI, HDMI, and DisplayPort outputs. One drawback however, is its 3-hour, 21-minute battery life.
Overall, the super-slick Dell Latitude XT2 will offers virtually all the features that a typical user would need, except of course, the exorbitant price-tag. On the whole however, with its powerful computer peripherals it’s an excellent device.
